The power of presence is something we overlook until we find ourselves talking to someone and recognise, they are not present. Distractions such as email notifications or the telephone ringing are common examples, but quiet distractions are when people are tapping away on their mobile, or keyboard while they are purporting to be ‘present.’  Irritating and disrespectful but we tolerate that sort of behaviour because that is the ‘norm.’ It is not the norm; it is downright rude!

These days it is really difficult to live without artificial intelligence (AI) as it is encroaching almost all aspects of our life. Often AI comes to ease or to save time, but there are many moments when what we need is to be heard with compassion and respect. This is called being present and being present comes from the use of emotional intelligence. Being present also means holding a sacred space and making time because someone has chosen us to share their thoughts with us. Respond with respect is not just politeness but kindness as it could easily be us yearning to be heard.

Really listening is the best thing we can do. So why not resolve to offer our presence to others so they feel heard and listen to. Try not to listen to reply instead use the power of presence. Listen with intent and accept the gift to allow others to hear themselves.

As a Coach, facilitator and guide I am working on myself to be present more as that is an important ingredient for profound transformation.

Peace be with you.
